Grand Rapids Community College
The school offers a two-year Associate in Applied Arts and Sciences degree in Dental Assisting as well as a Dental Assisting Certificate.
The certificate course offers two applications: one for students that have no prior experience and one for students that hold a Certified Dental Assistant credential.
The certificate course is a total of 44 credit hours.
Students participating in this course are prepared for the Michigan Registered Dental Assistant exam.
The courses include an externship which students are expected to complete in order to successfully graduate from both of these courses.
Student fees are as follows:
- Resident student – $151.00 per credit hour
- Non-resident student – $321.00 per credit hour
- Out of state student – $482.00 per credit hour
Delta College
The school offers an associate degree course in dental assistance.
Upon completion, students are eligible to take the State of Michigan licensure exam.
Upon successful completion of the exam, students may become Registered Dental Assistants.
Students are able to receive the CDA national credential once the course has been completed, but this is not recognized in all states.
In-state students pay $1,792 for 12 contact hours per semester, while out-of-state students pay $2,908.
The second course is known as a dual degree, which focuses on the skills required to become a dental assistant as well as business management skills.

Mott Community College

The certificate course is 42 credits and 61 contact hours.
Both courses prepare students to sit for the Michigan State Board Examination to become licensed Registered Dental assistants (RDA).
In addition, both courses are accredited by the state of Michigan and the Commission of Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association.

Northwestern Michigan College
The school offers a two-year associate degree course and a one-year certificate course in dental assistance.
Students may practice as Registered Dental Assistants after successfully completing the Michigan state board exam.
