Phlebotomy Certification Requirements for Wyoming

It is a fact that the State of Wyoming does not require that phlebotomists have a certification so as to be allowed to work in a medical facility, but we keep on suggesting to our readers that this is worth considering.

We emphasize that due to the fact that there are good reasons that you should get your phlebotomy certification, and one of them is that employers would rather hire a candidate with than without a license.

Another reason is that you can negotiate your salary and get more advanced positions within a facility if you are a CPT.

The last reason that we find it important to note is that a phlebotomy certification can be used as a good stepping stone for you if you are interested in pursuing further specialties in the medical field.

The prerequisites of the training courses that will lead to a certificate may vary between facilities, but the majority of them will require that:

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You must have graduated from high school, or completed an equivalency exam.
  • You should be proficient in English
  • You should have good basic computer skills.

Completing a phlebotomy certification training course is the first step.

A minimum of 100 hours of clinical laboratory training or externship under the supervision of a health care professional is also required to be allowed to take the certification exam.

Once you finish all these requirements, the next step is taking and passing a certification exam.

Required Skills

So as to be considered as a great phlebotomist, having empathy is a must.

Your job will not only be blood drawing from a patient, but you will need to collect, store, and transport the blood specimens.

Soothing nervous patients who are afraid of the procedure or needles will also be your task, and you will have to deal with different kinds of personalities, meaning that it is important that phlebotomists are passionate about helping people.

They must be ready to work in a high-paced and stressful environment, and be aware that a person’s blood will be used to determine the possible disease and save his/her life.
