Considering becoming a phlebotomy technician in Louisiana is one of the wisest choices you could make, as this profession is so promising, and now is the right time to start gaining education towards it.
The reason why numerous schools and colleges offer both short-term and long-term phlebotomy courses is that facilities, hospitals, laboratories, and doctors’ offices are in constant lack of skilled and certified phlebotomists.

This state has passed a state law that you must be certified before gaining employment as a phlebotomist.
This means that each future phlebotomist needs to enroll in a training program approved by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners which can be found in many vocational and technical colleges in Louisiana, and after finishing the training, he/she must apply for certification through two organizations:
- The American Society of Clinical Pathologists
- The National Phlebotomy Association
When the certification prerequisites are in question, you should know that the ASCA requires a student to complete 40 classroom hours, 100 hours in practicals, and 100 successful venipunctures, while the NPA requires a student to complete 160 hours in the classroom, as well as an internship in a facility or lab.
